Lead Stores Person
About the Role
As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Lead Stores Person to take ownership of our stores function and play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of our projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, proactive and hands-on individual to lead the day-to-day operation of the stores, support the stores team, and drive continuous improvement across stock control, logistics and material management.
The Role
The Lead Stores Person will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the stores, ensuring materials, consumables and equipment are controlled efficiently and are available to support production and project delivery.
The successful candidate will provide day-to-day leadership to the Stores team whilst working closely with Projects, Production, QA/QC and Finance to ensure the smooth movement of materials throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the stores, ensuring an organised, efficient and safe working environment.
- Lead, support and coordinate the Stores team, promoting high standards of performance, accountability and teamwork.
- Coordinate all collections and deliveries, ensuring the efficient movement of materials and equipment to support operational requirements.
- Plan and oversee the safe loading and unloading of HGVs, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with company procedures.
- Liaise with suppliers, transport providers and internal departments to schedule deliveries and collections, minimising disruption to operational activities.
- Receive, inspect and accurately book all incoming materials into the company's stock management system.
- Manage the accurate booking in and booking out of materials, maintaining full traceability at all times.
- Maintain accurate inventory records through routine stock checks, cycle counts and annual stock takes.
- Investigate stock discrepancies and implement corrective actions where required.
- Ensure production teams receive materials in line with project requirements and manufacturing schedules.
- Maintain effective communication with Purchasing, Production, Projects, QA/QC and Finance to support efficient operational planning.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and Health & Safety throughout the stores and yard.
- Identify opportunities to improve stores processes, inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, quality standards and Health & Safety legislation.
- Support wider operational activities where required to ensure successful project delivery.
About You
You will be an organised and proactive individual with previous experience working within a production or manufacturing stores environment. You will be confident leading a team by example and enjoy working in a fast-paced business where no two days are the same.
Essential
- Previous experience leading or supervising a stores function within a production or manufacturing environment.
- Experience using stock control, inventory management or ERP systems.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and people leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload within a busy operational environment.
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within a stores environment.
Desirable
- Previous industry experience within a fabrication, welding or heavy manufacturing environment.
- Good understanding of engineering materials, including structural steel, plate, pipework and engineering consumables.
- Forklift Truck (FLT) licence.
- Experience using ERP or MRP systems.
- Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives.
